Welcome to the MetroWest Parents Check-In Webpage
All teens are at risk of abusing alcohol, drugs, and prescription medications and all parents need to help keep their teens from substance abuse.
MetroWest parents want to do the right thing - we watch our teens and talk with them about not using these substances- but are there other things we should do? Are we doing the right things? The stakes are higher than ever before. New research indicates that teens that begin drinking at an early age can experience real change in the way their brains function. The 2006 MetroWest Adolescent Health Survey shows that 42% of MetroWest students in grades 9–12 have used alcohol in the last month, 25% reported binge drinking (five or more alcoholic drinks in a row) in the past 30 days, and 11% have misused prescription drugs in their lifetime.
The MetroWest Technical Assistance Center along with the the MetroWest Community Health Care Foundation offers resources to help you to Check-In with your teen. We also offer some information about how your own behavior can sometimes influence your teen's decisions about alcohol - even without your realizing it.
